Cairns Convention Centre Unveils $176 Million Renovation

Located in the heart of tropical North Queensland, Cairns Convention Centre has unveiled its refurbishment and expansion with a $176 million investment from the Queensland Government.

The expansion project, led by ASM Global (Asia Pacific) and Cox Architecture, has added more than 113,020 square feet of meeting, banquet and exhibition space. The new facilities include an expansive exhibition area accommodating a 450-seat lecture space, three versatile meeting rooms, a 500-capacity banquet space, an outdoor terrace and a spacious lobby for pre-event functions. The Trinity Room and Terrace level, offering views over Trinity Inlet, is a highlight of the expansion.

The Cairns Convention Centre also offered virtual reality (VR) flythrough tours of its new facilities at IMEX Las Vegas on stand E1204 (October 17–19). “We want to showcase our Centre in person to as many clients as possible, but that is not always possible. The interactive virtual tours allow clients to become immersed in the spaces within the Centre by using headsets or jumping onto our website,” said Janet Hamilton, general manager of Cairns Convention Centre. "The virtual tours at IMEX Las Vegas will allow event professionals and planners to explore the state-of-the-art facility, showcasing its contemporary design, seamless event delivery systems, and the incorporation of Cairns' lush tropical rainforest into the Centre’s spaces."

The virtual tours were made possible by the support of Tourism Australia via its Business Events Advance Program which partners with industry on activity that aims to increase the number and value of international business events for Australia.
