In a bid to promote responsible tourism, Iberostar Group has launched "Responsible Meetings" in its properties across the Caribbean, developing a new way to offer eco-friendly meeting, incentive travel, convention and event experiences.
With the demand for corporate travel on the rise, Iberostar aims to build awareness of responsible business travel, going beyond recycling and zero waste. Working toward circular economy values, Iberostar utilizes efficient waste management; reduces disposable options; offers gourmet menus that include responsibly sourced seafood, as well as activities that reinforce a better team connection.
Transforming how incentive trips are perceived, Iberostar offers activities that tie into one of their main initiatives—the "Wave of Change" movement. Groups can join team-building activities that are focused on sustainable initiatives, including those that are a direct contribution to improving ocean and coastal health, such as planting mangroves and local beach cleanups.
Additionally, with the focus on the retention of value in materials to prevent their release into the environment, Iberostar contributes to a circular economy by being free of single-use plastics in rooms, meeting spaces and throughout the property; continuing with a paperless philosophy established in 2017; efficiently managing waste; having on-site composting programs and replacing traditional displays with digital programs and signage.
With 80 percent of its hotels on the seafront and its Caribbean destination properties in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica, Iberostar has pioneered the ecotourism movement by establishing a more responsible approach to meetings developed by the group’s main priority—sustainability.
